At a time when Washington seems overwhelmed with the desire to spend enormous sums of taxpayer dollars, Mike Turner has been a voice for fiscal restraint and common sense. Mike Turner has represented your values with his voting record:
• Voted twice against the government takeover of health care
• Voted against the $700 Billion Wall Street and General Motors Bailout
• Voted against the $800 Billion Economic Stimulus Plan
• Voted against the Cap and Trade Bill
• Sponsored legislation to protect the child custody rights of deployed military parents
• Protected your values by voting to prevent taxpayer dollars from being used on abortion
While Mike understands that there are many pressing issues facing our nation today, he believes it is absolutely critical that we get control of government spending and stop a devastating debt from being passed down to our children and grandchildren.
The combined costs of the Wall Street Bailout, President Obama’s stimulus package, and the recent takeover of healthcare amount to over two TRILLION dollars in new spending. To put this in perspective, that is equal to giving each person in Mike’s Congressional District over $2.6 MILLION! Keep in mind that this spending does not contribute in any meaningful way to Social Security, our nation’s military, or many other traditional priorities that will require funding in the coming weeks, months, and years.
All of this new government spending has not helped our national economy nearly to the degree that was promised by leaders in Washington. Worst yet, our level of debt has threatened the United States of America’s government bond rating, a critical measurement of economic strength and stability.
Mike Turner opposed each of these huge increases in government spending. As a former Mayor of Dayton, Mike has fought hard for both common sense spending policies and increased accountability for those charged with spending taxpayer dollars.
